Saltaire Live’s latest gig gift to folk followers was a festive triumph last night when The Albion Christmas Band took to the stage at Victoria Hall.
The strong-following these gigs draw in was very much in evidence seeing as this festive band had to be booked at short notice to fill in for the much-looked forward to Fire & Frost show by Waterson: Carthy which had been cancelled due to ill-health.
Victoria Hall was packed proving their appreciation and support of top quality acts being brought to our doorstep.
And they were not disappointed to spend the evening in the seasonal company of The Albion Christmas Band featuring Simon Nicol of Fairport fame, Ashley Hutchings likewise Steeleye Span, Simon Care from Edward II and the deliciously melodious voice of Kellie While.
It was an entertaining night of seasonal and festive traditional music and song, with Yuletide offerings of readings and tales of the traditions of Winter and Christmas past.
There was even some dance – I can’t remember the last time I saw a blindfolded man dance around eggs without cracking them!
