An elderly man has died after the car he was driving flipped onto its roof following a collision at the Saltaire roundabout.
The man, who was said to be 89 and from Bingley, was driving a blue Toyota Yaris along Bingley Road at about 11.20am.
The Toyota Yaris was in collision with a blue Mazda 2 as they drove along Bingley Road towards Bradford.
The Yaris then flipped on its roof.
The Yorkshire Air Ambulance landed in the grounds of Saltaire Primary School, Albert Road, and paramedics attempted in vain to save the man. He was taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary by ambulance but was pronounced dead on arrival.
A cordon was put up around the crash scene and roads were either fully or partially closed for more than three hours.
Eye-witness Abdul Khalid, who works in the Shell garage on the roundabout, said: “The driver was coming down Bingley Road and seemed to have been confused.
“There were so many ambulances around and the helicopter.”
Wendy Harris, who works at the Old Tramshed bar near the crash scene, called 999 after she and customers heard the crash.
“We’d just opened for the day when there was a loud bang,” she said. “People having coffees went out to look and came back in saying a car was on its roof.”
A woman, who had been near the roundabout at the scene of the crash, was also badly shaken.
The Toyota Yaris car was removed from Saltaire Roundabout just after 3pm.
The roundabout has been the scene of numerous accidents. The most recent was on September 5 when the rider of a Honda motorbike collided with a red Ford Focus.
The 58-year-old rider died in Bradford Royal Infirmary more than two weeks later.
