Warnings will be posted on a dozen new grit bins to help guard against inappropriate use of their contents.
Keighley Town Council has funded 12 new grit bins for the town.
They were installed on sloping streets not covered by Bradford Council’s gritting vehicles.
However, town councillors have since expressed concern that some people are not using the grit in the areas for which it is intended and even taking it to spread on their own property.
Now the town council has agreed that each bin should have a warning sticker attached to it.
The stickers will inform people that the grit is only to be used on the public highway in the “immediate area” and that people who remove it for other purposes may be prosecuted.
