A Bradford woman who has “brightened the lives” of her neighbours has been given an award for her acts of selflessness.
Rose Lannen, of Woodside, was last night presented with the Gerry Pickersgill Award for outstanding tenant involvement, which is given every year in memory of a Keighley area housing manager who died in 2000.
Mrs Lannen helped set up the Woodside Community Neighbourhood Group and does volunteer work at Sandale Community Centre.
She was recognised for her good deeds which have included organising trips out, running errands for elderly residents and helping out with activities and lunches at the community centre.
The award, now in its tenth year, is presented by the Bradford District Federation of Tenants and Residents and is supported by social housing landlord Incommunities.
Alex Brown, chairman of the federation, said: “This year we have received more nominations than ever before and the standard of the entries has again been exceptionally high.
“It was very difficult choosing one winner but it’s fair to say Rose Lannen makes an extremely worthy winner of our tenth annual tenant involvement award.
“Congratulations to everyone nominated for the Gerry Pickersgill Award. They should be very proud to be singled out for the special contribution they make to helping others in their community.”
Runners up prizes went to Jenny Scott, of Thornton, who set up activities for children and young people at Springhead Tenants and Residents Association, and Mary Morton and Jean Grange, of Kennedy House, Keighley, who set up a luncheon club for older people.
Geraldine Howley, Incommunities Group chief executive, said: “Every year, the Gerry Pickersgill Award celebrates the achievements of special individuals who each touch the lives of others in a positive way.
“Thanks to their contributions and involvement other people’s lives have been improved.”
