A council’s car parking “cash cow” is to be milked by a further ten per cent to boost the local authority’s revenue by almost £70,000.
But the proposal to increase car park charges over most of the Craven district met with opposition at the policy committee meeting in Skipton. The proposals would mean an increase in all the charges for car parks in Skipton and at the Whitefriars and Ashfield car parks in Settle.
But the cost would go down in Settle’s Greenfoot car park and remain static at Ingleton’s community centre and Backgate car parks.
Coun Paul English (Lib Dem) was against the increases He said: “I don’t see why people should have to pay up to 50 per cent more to park in Skipton than in Settle.
“For years we have been subsidising Settle. This revenue is coming in from the cash cow of Skipton.”
Skipton’s High Street and Bunkers Hill car park fees would rise by 10p to £1.20 for up to one hour, by 20p to £2.30 for up to two hours and by 30p to £3.50 for three hours and to £4.50 for up to four hours.
