A traffic survey will be carried out on a road where a planning application is expected for a large residential development.
The survey will be used to address problems with congestion in Skipton Road near the junction with Thornhill Road, Steeton.
Steeton-with-Eastburn Parish Council said there were problems with traffic congestion, particularly at peak times, and the survey could be used by anyone interested in the traffic flow through Steeton.
As volunteers would carry out the survey, it would not be deemed to be independent.
The parish council’s other option would have been to pay for a survey to be done by Bradford Council, which would be independent.
It decided to do its own survey, although the volunteers would only be allowed to count vehicles. The Council acknowledged a problem with congestion in Steeton and one councillor questioned how the data would be interpreted.
“If you count cars, you’re taking no notice of the queuing,” said Councillor Roger Lambert.
