Thousands flocked to the 25th Otley Victorian Fair where market stalls were staffed by traders in Victorian costume selling their wares.

Festive food, decorations and drinks were on sale at the fair, which was held on a Sunday this year for the first time in its history.

Children enjoyed patting two reindeer who were joining in the festivities, carols were sung and street entertainment included musicians and jugglers.

Meanwhile in Haworth, villagers were enjoying a festive weekend of events, with a parade and carol singing on Saturday, and a torch-light procession winding its way along Main Street on Sunday.

Describing Saturday’s Candlemas Eve event, Mike Hutchinson, vice- chairman of Haworth Village Association, said: “When we got to the bottom we sang carols around the tree and it was really nice. We finished with Auld Lang Syne and everybody crossed arms.

“As I looked up the street there were all those people and I just thought, ‘This is good’.

“We were very lucky with the weather which helped. It was lovely, there was a wonderful, Christmassy magic atmosphere.”

Sunday’s torchlight parade was followed by a Christmas carol service at St Michael and All Angels Parish Church in Church Street.

And adorned with evergreens, Bradford’s Bolling Hall was full of festive spirit yesterday.

A traditional Victorian Christmas was enjoyed by families, with craft activities, festive music and refreshments on offer.

Museums and galleries manager for Bradford Council Maggie Pedley said: “It’s going very well, we are very busy. We’ve got traditional Victorian Christmas events happening, carol singers, a magician, a story teller and family activities for people to make traditional pomanders and Christmas decorations.

“We had Santa Claus, he is a very popular part of the visit.

“It’s something we do every year, for the last three years and the event is growing. Once decorated with Christmas decorations and evergreens it is a wonderful setting.”

And dozens of traders took to Shipley’s Market Square for a festive craft and produce market on Friday and Saturday.

There were live street music and fairground attractions at the Bradford Council organised event.

Speciality food and drink, hand-crafted jewellery and Christmas decorations were among the goods on sale.
