Runners young and old are being sought to take part in this year’s Bradford City Run.

The main event on Sunday, October 17, will, for the first time, be a half-marathon after last year’s ten-mile run was hailed a huge success.

A consultation by organisers Bradford Council following the 2009 race revealed the 13-mile route chosen for this year’s event was the one preferred by runners and residents alike.

The half marathon will take a scenic journey from the Alhambra Theatre, around Thornton and Denholme, up to Sandy Lane, and back down to Lister Park.

All ages and abilities will be catered for – as well as the main 13.2 mile race there will be a four-person relay, a 5km fun run and two children’s races of 3km and 1km.

Children will also be able to compete for the Schools Cup which is awarded to the school that enters the most number of children into the race.

With little more than six weeks to go, Bradford Council is calling on people to sign up, and is hoping to build on last year’s Bradford City Run, which attracted 1,000 runners.

Last year’s main beneficiary was the recently merged Age Concern and Help the Aged charity. As last year, this year’s runners can raise funds for any charity they wish.

It will cost £15 for adults and £5 for junior runners and entry is open to anyone over the age of 16.

Prizes will be awarded to those crowned fastest man and woman at the event, and organisers are asking people to predict the winning times by e-mailing winningtimes@bradfordcityrun. com.

Anyone who wants to enter the race can now download a form or enter online, both at bradfordcityrun.com.
