A 21-year-old man on trial accused of murdering a student in a violent robbery told a jury his accomplice wanted to kill everyone in the house.

Reaben Kareem wept as he told Bradford Crown Court of the moment he discovered Tony Ho was dead.

Kareem blames his co-accused, Jwanru Osman, for the death of Mr Ho, 19, a chemistry and forensic science student at Bradford University.

Mr Ho died of multiple stab wounds and a cut throat as his bank account was plundered using a laptop computer.

Kareem, of Walsall, West Midlands, and Osman, 20, of Northolt, admit conspiracy to rob Mr Ho, his sister Sally, and her boyfriend Gavin Stolarczyk at their student accommodation in Grantham Road, Great Horton, Bradford.

Yesterday Kareem told the jury: “He (Osman) said ‘Tony’s dead now’.

“I saw him with the knife. I walked towards Tony. As soon as I saw the slash on his throat I could not look again.

“I turned around. I crouched down holding my head and said ‘How could you do that?’”

Kareem claimed that Osman told him killing Tony was the only way they would not be found out. Kareem said Osman wanted to kill all three students, burn down the house and destroy the bodies to hide the evidence.

Kareem said they gave Sally and Gavin sleeping pills instead and escaped to London.

On the way Osman dumped the knives used in the robbery in a bin at a motorway service station, the jury was told.

Kareem alleged Osman accelerated to 130mph and said: “If you don’t take the blame, I’ll kill both of us.”

Kareem said he handed himself in to police because he thought he should be punished.

He and Osman deny murdering Tony Ho on January 22.

Kareem pleads guilty to wounding Sally Ho and Gavin Stolarczyk with intent to cause them grievous bodily harm. Osman denies the charges.

Mr Ho bled to death after he was stabbed 13 times and his throat was slashed.

Miss Ho was struck with a bottle and Mr Stolarczyk was stabbed during the robbery. Both were bound and gagged.

The trial continues.
