A student bled slowly to death from multiple stab wounds and a slashed throat after he was attacked with a sharp knife, a murder trial jury heard.
Talented sportsman Tony Ho, 19, would have survived up to 20 minutes after the injuries were inflicted, Bradford Crown Court was told yesterday.
Home Office pathologist Dr Kenneth Shorrock said that Mr Ho would have slipped into unconsciousness as he bled profusely.
The court heard that Mr Ho, who was studying chemistry and forensic science at Bradford University, was a fit young man who played rugby to a high level.
Reaben Kareem, 20, of Walsall, West Midlands, and Jwanru Osman, 20, of Northolt, Middlesex, are on trial accused of his murder.
Kareem admits wounding Mr Ho’s sister, Sally Ho, 22, and her boyfriend, Gavin Stolarczyk, 30, with intent to cause them grievous bodily harm. Osman denies the charges.
Both men admit conspiracy to rob the three students.
Dr Shorrock said Mr Ho suffered 13 stab wounds.
One to his chest caused a collapsed lung. Five knife wounds went right through his arms.
Dr Shorrock said these injuries were inflicted under what he described as “very unusual circumstances”.
He said: “Whoever has stabbed him has deliberately set out to stab him in this way.”
Mr Ho had been slashed across the throat and a ligature placed around his neck after the injury was inflicted. Dr Shorrock said no single injury had killed him but all the wounds contributed to his death.
The Crown says Kareem and Osman murdered Mr Ho to plunder his bank account.
The three students suffered a terrifying ordeal during the robbery at their student house in Grantham Road, Great Horton, Bradford, on Friday, January 22, the jury has been told.
Miss Ho was struck on the head with a bottle, bound to a chair and gagged. Mr Stolarczyk was stabbed, trussed up and gagged.
The trial continues.
