A huge thank you goes out today to the people of Bradford who contributed to the Beating Hearts in Bradford Appeal as we are delighted to announce the £105,000 target has been reached.
It was just 14 months ago that the Telegraph & Argus teamed up with the British Heart Foundation (BHF) to ensure the success of the campaign to raise the money to buy cutting edge diagnostic equipment for Bradford Royal Infirmary’s cardiology department.
The BHF launched the appeal in December, 2008 after heart specialists at BRI said it was vital for local heart patients to have the use of a 3D echocardiograph machine.
The district has high levels of heart disease and every year around 5,000 heart scans are carried out at BRI. These are currently done using a 2D machine.
The new 3D machine will give doctors more detailed information about the structure, valves and pumping action of the heart, helping them make more informed and speedier diagnoses.
