Neighbours in and around Cross Street, Wibsey, are celebrating after finally getting their badly rutted, unadopted cul-de-sac repaired.
Resident Richard North said: “The potholes were so huge in winter the road was impassable. When the snow cleared it was pure mud.”
Fellow resident Michelle Gallagher teamed up with neighbour Tracey Butler to try and find a solution.
She said: “Tracey got on to the Council and we went from there. We did all the rounds. Only a couple of houses didn’t put in, but mostly everybody worked together and chipped in.
“We went with J&S Smith of Wibsey, as they gave us the cheapest quote – £6,750. They were really good. It took them three days, from Monday, to do the work.
“All the neighbours are hoping it will last for a number of years.”
They are also hoping that sometime soon their self-help action will be recognised by Bradford Council and something will be done about the quantity of rainwater coming off the High Street on to Cross Street.
Wibsey councillor Ralph Berry said: “The work they have done to pull together as a community is fantastic.
“All three ward councillors are now pressing for the drainage issue to be addressed. We have had some very heavy downpours.”
