Bradford Street Angels are appealing for help protecting the people of Bradford, after the organisation revealed it is operating with only half the required number of volunteers.
The team struggles with lower numbers in the summer because many of its volunteers are students at the University of Bradford, who leave the city during the holidays.
The organisation, which is based at the Delius Centre, in Morley Street, usually provides a presence in the city centre on Friday and Saturday nights, between 8pm and 2am.
Because of its drop in numbers, the team will only be out on Fridays until its student volunteers return in September.
The scheme, launched in 2007, needs around 90 volunteers to cover both nights and is currently working with around half that amount.
Chairman John Dinsdale said: “We need people all year round but particularly through the summer. In term time we get a lot of volunteers from the university but when they go home we find ourselves short.
“We need someone who feels passionate about the city, likes Bradford and wants to do things for the city. The people of Bradford are fantastic and we want them involved.” The Street Angels would also welcome any donations to help them cover their costs. Anyone who would like to help the organisation or make a donation is asked to email admin@bradfordstreetangels.org.uk or phone (01274) 288282. They can also be reached by searching Bradford Street Angels on Facebook.
