Bradford’s first Co-operative Trust School is being renamed to mark its evolution.
Aire Valley School will be the new title of Nab Wood School, in Cottingley, when pupils go back after the summer holidays.
Ken Pollard, physical education and advanced skills teacher, said the school had changed beyond recognition in recent years and a new name was only fitting.
He said: “We want to move the school onto the next level. Last year we had our best ever exam results and we are looking to build on the solid foundation of success we have built over the last couple of years.”
The school has a new logo with the tag line: ‘Education with a different view’. New uniforms are also being introduced.
The school is one of 19 secondary schools in the district which has had its rebuilding or refurbishment project axed by Education Secretary Michael Gove’s decision to halt the Building Schools for Future programme.
Mr Pollard insists the school’s rebranding is in no way connected to that decision.
“This is not a response to not getting the BSF cash,” he said.
“This has been prepared and put together over many months.
“It was a disappointment. It would have been nice to get money for new buildings but there is no point in crying about something we can’t change, so we are pulling our sleeves up and getting on with it. We will still be putting ourselves in for pots of money where we can. MP Philip Davies is very supportive and he’s looking at lobbying ministers.”
He said there was no work going on at the school over the summer to increase capacity and there would be sufficient space for new pupils.
Mr Pollard said: “The newness and freshness of the rebrand will hopefully re-energise the school into a blossoming and even more successful school.”
