The funerals of two children and their mother who died in a suspected arson blaze have taken place in Bradford.

Yesterday the bodies of triple tragedy victims Alina Shah, ten, and her brother Aman Shah, eight, and their 32-year-old mother Iram Batool were released by the city’s coroner for burial at Scholemoor.

The brief opening of the inquest heard how Aman was pronounced dead on arrival at Bradford Royal Infirmary and his sister was pronounced dead by a paramedic at the scene of the fire at their home in Hendford Drive, Pollard Park, on Tuesday, July 6.

Their mother, who had been born in Pakistan and was a housewife, died seven days later in the burns unit at Pinderfields Hospital.

All three died from the horrific burns they suffered.

The inquest was told Aman died in the ambulance on the way to hospital and Alina was discovered near a bedroom window of their home in Hendford Drive, Pollard Park.

Detective Chief Inspector Simon Bottomley, leading the investigation into the deaths, said the fire was being treated as arson.

Asjid Mahmood has since been charged with the children’s murders and will now face a third murder charge for Iram Shah’s death.

At the time it was reported by neighbours who tried to help that she had jumped from an upstairs window in flames trying to escape the inferno which engulfed her home.

Another man is on bail while the investigation into the deaths continue.

Bradford corner Roger Whittaker adjourned the inquests to await the outcome of criminal charges in the case.
