Visitors to Bradford city centre have given mixed reactions to the new bus canopy in Hall Ings, which opened today.
The large structure, built as part of Bradford’s City Park scheme, opened as the road through the centre of the project – Channing Way – was closed to traffic to allow the six-acre pedestrian park to be created.
All bus stops in Channing Way are being relocated around the edges of the City Park and many will stop at the new shelter.
Some passers-by said they liked the large size of the canopy and its open design but others were critical of its ability to provide adequate shelter to waiting bus passengers.
The opening of the canopy and the closure of Channing Way marked a key point in the construction of the £24.4m City Park.
New traffic lights at the bottom of Little Horton Lane and the bus lane onto Princes Way have also become operational.
Notices with details of changes of bus stops are displayed in each bus shelter around the site.
