We do live in a small world.

Stopping above a pub in a picturesque corner of Essex could not be further removed from the hustle and bustle of Bradford life.

So imagine my surprise when the landlord greets me first morning with a hearty breakfast and the words: “So, you’re from the T&A then ...”

It turns out the fella concerned is a Leeds boy, who happened to be in the same school class as Geoffrey Richmond’s son Michael.

His abiding memory of City’s erstwhile chairman is the sight of him dropping off Michael every morning – in a bright red Rolls Royce held together by black plastic tape!

In many ways, that could be an apt description of his years at the Valley Parade helm.

Mein Host clearly used to mix in special circles. The class also contained the son of Lesley Silver, the Leeds chairman of that time.

The pub owner has lived down south for over a decade but popped back earlier this year to watch the Rocky Horror Show at the Alhambra.

And if you are looking for a pair of high heels in a size 12, he can recommend the perfect shop!
