Judging for this year’s Yorkshire in Bloom competition has taken place in Thornton with dozens of hanging baskets, raised beds and floral displays brightening up the village.
The team of judges today started their tour at Kipping Gardens before walking up Thornton Road to view some of the 75 hanging baskets and four flower beds installed by businesses and residents.
This is the third year the village has entered the competition after winning silver awards in 2008 and 2009.
Councillor Valerie Binney, chairman of Thornton in Bloom, said: “We pulled out all the stops to try and get a silver guilt this year.
“All the volunteers have put so much effort in, the baskets and the raised beds are outstanding. We also had some excellent entrants into the garden competition.”
The village’s Heritage Railway Project has been entered for a special neighbourhood award.
The results will be announced in September.
