A shrine has been erected in memory of a motorcyclist who was killed when his machine hit a roadside post on a busy main road.

Bouquets of flowers and eight bottled candles have been placed at the road- side near to where Lukasz Pawlowski died last Wednesday at Cononley, near Skipton.

The 26-year-old, of New Town Close, Keighley, lost control of his blue and white Yamaha YZF R6 on the first of a series of sharp bends as he rode towards Skipton along the A629 and Cononley Lane Ends.

A post-mortem examination has confirmed he died as a result of the injuries and an inquest was opened on Monday in Northallerton. A full inquest is expected to be held at a later date in Skipton.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash or for people who may have seen the rider before the accident which happened at 5.40pm.

They are asked to contact traffic constable Steve Beckwith on 0845 6060247 quoting reference number 12100117481.

Councillors from both Cononley and Farnhill and Kildwick parish councils have voiced concern about traffic problems at the notorious junction.

Cononley Parish Councillor Lois Brown was travelling towards Keighley and came upon the crashed motorcycle just seconds after the accident.

“There are lots of problems at this junction both for drivers and pedestrians.

“Pulling out from Cononley or Farnhill for drivers is very dangerous and crossing for pedestrians is also very risky.

“Cars approach quite quickly from Keighley and there’s a lot of braking.

“We’ve suggested building a pedestrian refuge in the middle of the road further towards Bradley at least to help pedestrians cross more safely,” she said.
