Classic and high-performance motors from across the decades were showcased at the city’s biggest car show.

Gleaming bonnets and immaculately polished prestige cars drew an estimated 20,000 visitors to Centenary Square for the return of the Bradford Classic.

Enthusiasts seized the opportunity to pop up bonnets and inspect engines and children paid donations to the Lord Mayor’s Appeal to pose for photographs inside famous vehicles.

A green convertible Jaguar XKR used by James Bond villain Zao in 2002 film Die Another Day pulled considerable attention. The model on show was complete with a replica Gatling gun reaching out from behind the rear seats and clusters of red-nosed missiles poking from its front grills. A Union flag emblazoned Jaguar XK8 convertible, used in the Austin Powers movies, also took centre stage alongside a black Pontiac Firebird used as actor David Hasselhoff’s car in his role as Michael Knight in the second series of 1980s television show, Knight Rider.

Fans of The A-Team indulged in a replica model of the black and red-striped GMC van used in the TV show.

A blue and yellow Subaru Impreza rally car and several lightweight kit cars, including one put together by students at Bradford College’s automotive department, also impressed.

Historic motors in the line-up came in all shapes and engine sizes. And retro motors included a Lotus Turbo Esprit, a Jensen Interceptor II, stately-looking Rolls-Royces, original Mini Coopers and military vehicles.

Browsers were entertained by a jazz band and a continental market in the city centre. Bob Parker, Bradford Council’s city centre operations manager, said: “Our exhibitors are all enthusiastic and hugely proud of what they have got on show. It’s their enthusiasm that makes this event.”

The centenaries of the Bradford-built Jowett car company and Ilkley and District Motor Club were celebrated at the event.
