Kayaking, sailing and canoeing were the order of the day for about 60 students who took part in this year’s Doe Park regatta.
Pupils took to the water at the Denholme reservoir first as part of a six-week training programme to enable them to test out their skills ahead of the main event earlier this week.
The students included some from schools which had not taken part before including Greenhead, Appleton Academy, Titus Salt, Queensbury and Bingley Grammar.
Councillor the Reverend Paul Flowers, Bradford Council’s executive member for culture, planning and highways, said: “The regatta gives the children a chance to develop their practical skills, gain confidence and explore some alternative sports. Our staff at Doe Park work with schools, colleges and voluntary groups as well as with looked-after children, disaffected young people and those with special needs.
“Everyone is encouraged to be active and have fun through physical activity both on and off the water.”
Prizes were given out by the Royal Yachting Association.
