Four Bradford sisters and two of their daughters are taking on the challenge of the first overseas cycle ride organised by the Bradford Marie Curie Hospice.

Councillor Jeanette Sunderland, leader of Bradford Council’s Liberal Democrat Group, and her sisters Sue Elliott, Adele Wilkins and Claire Macina will be taking on the Taj Mahal Cycle over 400km from Jaipur to Delhi in November next year, along with Jeanette’s daughter Rachel and Sue’s daughter Steph.

Together they are better known as the ‘Idle Daffs’ and they are taking part to thank Marie Curie for the care their mother and grandmother is receiving at the hospice in Maudsley Street.

Sheila Morris, of Idle, has been a day therapy patient at the hospice for three years and last year was an in-patient for three weeks.

Adele, who is a volunteer in the fundraising office, said: “It was quite a low point for my mum and they really turned her around.”

Brenda Doyle, Marie Curie community fundraising manager, said: “We would love to able to send a 40-strong team on what will be an incredible journey seeing parts of the country which most tourists never see and of course culminating in one of the wonders of the world, the Taj Mahal.”

An information evening is being held at the Bradford hospice on Thursday, September 16, at 6pm. Anyone wanting more information about the cycle challenge should call (01274) 337034 or e-mail brenda.
