A man who mugged a frail pensioner in broad daylight had already served seven years imprisonment for causing grievous bodily harm, a Court heard.

A judge ordered that Damien Busby, 34, be assessed by a psychiatrist on the level of danger he posed to the public.

Busby, of Gain Lane, Fagley, Bradford, pleaded guilty yesterday to robbing Eunice Renshall, 76, of a purse and contents on April 26.

He ripped her purse from her hand after she had collected her pension from Killinghall Post Office.

Sentence on Busby was adjourned until September 2 for psychiatric and probation service reports.

Judge John Potter, sitting at Bradford Crown Court, said he wanted the doctor to assess the risk Busby posed to the community.

“I need to find out whether or not you are a dangerous offender,” the judge told Busby, who appeared by video link to Leeds Prison.

The judge ordered defence lawyers to serve any psychiatric evidence they relied upon to the probation service within four weeks.

Judge Potter said Busby snatched the pensioner’s handbag in the street.

Judge Potter told Busby: “You will receive a significant and lengthy custodial sentence.”

He remanded him back into custody.
