Police were last night waiting to talk to a woman in hospital as they try to piece together what caused a fatal house fire in Keighley.
The 24-year-old fled the house in Argyle Street, police said.
A 33-year-old man was discovered inside the terraced home and was confirmed dead at the scene.
Airedale and North Bradford Police are treating the blaze as suspicious.
The woman was last night being treated at Airedale General Hospital for burns and other injuries. A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said her condition was not considered life-threatening.
It is understood the dead man, believed to originate from Kurdistan, ran a barber’s shop within the Keighley station complex, Station Cutz, for about a year.
Emergency services were called to the house in the Highfield area of the town shortly after 5pm on Tuesday.
A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “On arrival they found the property ablaze and the body of a 33-year-old man inside, who was confirmed to have died at the scene.
“A post-mortem examination is due to be conducted to establish the exact cause of death.”
Detective Inspector John Mountain, of Airedale and North Bradford CID, said: “We would like to speak to anyone who has information about this incident or saw anything suspicious on Argyle Street either at or shortly before 5pm. It is known that the 33-year-old who has died was seen on the street at the time.”
Anyone who has information should contact Airedale and North Bradford CID on 0845 6060606.
