People living around Bradford’s Manchester Road will be able to learn more about a new £3 million footbridge across the route this weekend on a guided walk.
Saturday’s walk will be led by leader of Bradford Council Ian Greenwood and engineers involved in the bridge plans will be on hand to answer questions. It will visit the Trident Mela, being held at Spring Mill Street Park.
The replacement bridge is part of the Connect2 project from sustainable transport charity Sustrans, which aims to connect walkways to the nearby hospitals and school as well as the city centre.
Half of the funding came from the Connect2 scheme winning a Big Lottery Fund TV vote in 2007.
Councillor Greenwood will be joined by Councillor the Reverend Paul Flowers, Trident management board chairman Taj Salam, residents and members of voluntary groups, and staff from Bradford Trident, a community-led company that works to regenerate the area.
The walk will start at 11am from the Alhambra theatre, heading up the Living Street parallel to Manchester Road, to the old footbridge. They will then cross Manchester Road to carry on to the Mela.
Work is expected to start on the bridge in 2011 with a view to opening it in 2012.
