A Bradford community will come together on Sunday to help make a young woman’s dream come true.

Nineteen-year-old Faye O’Hara has not been able to indulge her love of horse riding since she was paralysed in a car accident four years ago. She lost the use of both legs and her right arm.

While Faye has had to accept she will never ride again she dreams of owning a carriage to enable her to drive horses independently, as the next best thing.

Since her accident she has saved hard to buy her own pony and is still saving for a carriage but the cost of adaptations to her needs is £4,500, putting it way out of her and her family’s reach.

Now determined to make her dreams come true her family and friends have organised a football match on Sunday from 11am on fields at Bierley Lane, Bierley, followed by a barbecue, raffle, disco and auction from 2pm at The Greenwood pub in Bierley Lane.

Leigh Burke, 47, the partner of Faye’s mum, Dawn Virr, said: “We have all ready raised about £2,000 and it is amazing how people have pulled together and helped us out. The community has been fantastic and we have around 35 players for the match. Lots of local companies have helped out too which we really appreciate.”

He said the last four years had been a nightmare for Faye and being able to enjoy her horse again would mean the world to her.

“It has been really tough but now she is gaining more independence. To raise this money would be amazing.”
