The funeral of a 26-year-old soldier who died while serving in Afghanistan will be held in his home town of Otley on Wednesday.

Lance Corporal David Andrew Ramsden, of The Yorkshire Regiment, was one of four British soldiers who died in a road accident in Helmand Province on June 23. The four had been responding to an attack on a police checkpoint, when their Ridgeback armoured vehicle rolled into a waterway.

Lance Cpl Ramsden’s family – mother Shirley, father Eddie and brothers Matthew and Jeremy and sister Zoey and twin sister Emma – said: “David lived life at 1,000 mph. He loved Army life and his job and as a teenager was in the Army Cadet Force.”

Lance Cpl Ramsden was a former full-time soldier who had returned to Afghanistan as a reservist volunteer with the 1st Battalion, The Yorkshire Regiment, attached to The Mercian Regiment.

His funeral service is at Otley All Saints Parish Church at 12.45pm. Donations will be accepted for Help for Heroes.
