A Shipley soldier has been honoured for serving in Afghanistan.
Corporal Anthony Williams, of 3rd Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment (3 Yorks), was based in the Babaji region of Afghanistan for six months.
The Wrose dad-of-three was originally deployed operating the heavily-armoured Mastiff vehicle, but when Lance Corporal Graham Shaw, of Huddersfield, was killed by an improvised explosive device in February, Cpl Williams took over his role.
He said: “I have four lads in my team. We have metal detectors and we go at the front of the patrol and sweep, looking for bombs.”
Cpl Williams returned home from Babaji in April to his wife Claire and three young children, who are aged between two and eight.
Cpl Williams was presented with an Operation Herrick Medal by the Duke of Wellington at a ceremony at the regiment’s base in Wiltshire.
