Kirklees Council is offering a new kind of help to local people living in unsuitable homes.
Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing and housing association tenants who are overcrowded or living in homes that are too big for their needs can now get help from the Homefit scheme.
They can save money by moving to a property which is cheaper to run and easier to maintain.
The scheme also frees up homes which can be used for families in housing need.
Homefit also offers support to overcrowded households and helps people find a larger property.
The programme started last year and since then a total of 65 council tenants have downsized which has freed up 94 bedrooms for people in need of more space.
Fifty-two overcrowded households have been helped to find larger private rented properties.
