Delays to trains between Skipton and Bradford were caused early today after police received reports of a man trespassing on the tracks.
British Transport Police and West Yorkshire Police officers were called to the line near the Eastburn level crossing, near Steeton, Keighley, at about 6.13am.
A BTP spokesman said: "Officers attended after trains were placed on caution and searched the area but no one was found."
The spokesman said trains returned to normal running at 7.30am.
He said: "Trespass may not sound like a serious offence but, in the unforgiving environment of the railway, it can be a major safety hazard.
"Trespassers put themselves, rail staff and passengers in danger."
Anyone with information about the incident has been asked to contact BTP on 0800 405040 quoting reference 68 of 09/07/2010 or call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
