Football-mad Yeadon teenager Ryan Oliver has a special pair of glasses to thank for being able to continue playing the sport he loves.
Now Ryan can see properly on the pitch, he is warning his friends to beware.
The 13-year-old had always struggled to play football and other sports after being diagnosed with bad eyesight at the age of two.
The Benton Park School pupil then had to opt out of playing football altogether, or find himself struggling to see without his glasses.
But staff at Specsavers in Guiseley came to the rescue with a pair of special sports glasses similar to those worn by former Holland, AC Milan, Juventus and Barcelona star Edgar Davids.
Now Ryan is planning on becoming a star player for his five-a-side team.
“I have always loved sport and it was getting really annoying when I was told I couldn’t play in case I broke my glasses, or had to struggle to see when I had to remove them,” Ryan said.
“My new sports glasses have really helped at school and when I play five-a-side football – the rest of the team are now worried at how good I am on the pitch.”
The glasses are shatter proof and made to Ryan’s prescription.
His optician, Anjham Akbar, said specialist glasses are available for most people with poor eyesight keen to play sport.
“I am so pleased that the sports glasses have helped Ryan to participate in PE lessons at school and continue with playing football,” he said.
Ryan’s mum, Caroline, said she was thrilled with the glasses for her son.
“I would like to thank Guiseley Specsavers for giving Ryan the pair of bespoke sports glasses – they have transformed his day-to-day routine.”
