Leukaemia patients are set to enjoy a dream Disney break, thanks to a fundraising gala dinner-dance.

The annual Smokie gala dinner-dance has been raising money for the Annette Fox Leukaemia Fund for 15 years and it will be held at the Craiglands Hotel, Ilkley, on Friday from 7pm.

Fund administrator, Lisa Bailey, is hoping the event will raise enough money to help patients and their families enjoy a trip to Disneyland Resort Paris. It is hoped to send 75 people on the trip.

Lisa, of Bradford Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust's Annette Fox Haematology Unit, said: "The money raised will help give families the chance to enjoy a much-needed break."

Last year's event raised more than £33,000 and it is hoped that this year's event, which will be attended by almost 400 people, will be just as successful. A car, donated by Sunwin Motors, signed guitars from Francis Rossi and Rick Parfitt of Status Quo, and a framed Stereophonics shirt will be among the prizes raffled and auctioned on the night.

Smokie will also be treating guests to a live concert during the event. Lisa said: "Our thanks go out to Smokie for their continued support and to the people who have bought tickets to help raise money for the patients of ward seven."

The Annette Fox Leukaemia Research Fund has long been supporting haematology services in Bradford and is named in memory of a young leukaemia sufferer.

All money received by the charity is used to provide specialist equipment, training and personal services for patients on the ward.

Gala tickets cost £60 and there are limited places still available. Anyone who wants more information about the event or the charity should contact Lisa Bailey on (01274) 364168.
