Three pubs are in the running for national prizes.

The Old White Beare, Norwood Green, The Stansfield Arms, Apperley Bridge, and the Ring O'Bells, Thornton, were considered the best of their kind in Yorkshire.

The Old White Beare was considered the best village pub, The Stansfield Arms picked up the best newcomer prize and the Ring O'Bells was the best gastro pub.

Chris Green took over the Old White Beare and The Stansfield Arms 18 months ago with twin brother Nick.

He said: "When we took over the pubs we knew they needed an injection of money but we also added a new ethos and all round enthusiasm which we are really pleased has been recognised."

Since the Greens took over business in both pubs has increased by 50 per cent.

The Old White Beare was recognised for winning back the local community in the form of a number of sports clubs and societies and staging a charity summer ball. The judging panel praised the varied menus at The Stansfield Arms.

The Ring O'Bells has been serving quality food for 14 years under licensee Ann Preston. The pub serves 1,000 meals a week and 98 per cent of its produce comes from local traders.

The awards were handed out by the pub trade magazine Morning Advertiser. There is also a chance to pick up a prize at the London ceremony next month.
