A brave youngster is back at school after a life-changing kidney transplant - and raising cash to bring a smile to others like him.
Ten-year-old Oliver Cahill has returned to St William's Catholic School, at Four Lane Ends, Bradford.
Now his family and friends are hoping to raise more than £10,000 to take children from the transplant unit at St James's Hospital, Leeds, to the Transplant Olympics in Bristol, in August.
Frank Rushton, 49, of Wellington Crescent, Shipley, managed to raise £1,700 in just six days. He said: "I used to have really long hair and got it cut to raise the money. I know how much Ollie went through and want to help other children in similar situations."
Oliver, who lives in Beechwood Grove, Shipley, suffers from a disease - IgA nephropathy - that stops his kidneys working properly. It causes a build-up of protein in the kidneys, which prevents the organ from filtering waste and excess water from the blood.
His mum Angela Cahill, 36, said: "The transplant is a treatment and is not a cure.
"It could last six months or ten years, but we are hoping that this will last a long time because it was a perfect match.
"Hopefully, over the next few years they will develop technologies to cure Oliver."
Before the operation, Oliver had to undergo ten hours of dialysis every night.
Both his parents underwent tests to see if they were a match. Mrs Cahill, who was found to be a match, said: "I was due to be operated on in October but in September someone died and Oliver was given his kidney."
She added: "We want to raise as much money as possible so that we can take children to the games, so they can meet others like them and have fun."
