Keighley 2 Grimsby 0 - Michelle Harrison's penalty kept Keighley Ladies in third place in the league - and maintained their challenge at the top.

They were not at full strength, but wanted a solid result to take to this week's game which is away at unbeaten York City.

From the opening whistle Keighley were ut under pressure by a determined Grimsby side determined to show that they are better than their lowly position in the league would suggest. Superb defending kept the East Yorkshire side at bay as the home outfit worked to get into gear.

The Keighley keeper had was on good form and had to pull off saveral saves to maintain a clean sheet and the visitors went close when a corner hit the bar.

There were few chances for strikers Isabel Moorehouse and Maria McArdle as Grimsby defended well.

Late in the first half Grimsby again put the Keighley goal under seige, but they could not find the back of the net.

On the re-start Keighley looked a regenerated side with full back Emma Lund driving forward down the left and launching crosses into the Grimsby defence.

Panic set in among the Grimsby defence and on one attack the ball bounced off the back of a defender's foot and found its way into their net.

Amy Phelan teamed up woth the talented Becky Granger and started to give Town problems with quick passing around the 18-yard box. Fatima Khatun was also have a great game in midfield.

With time running out Keighley were awarded a penalty and captain Michelle Harrison drove the ball into the roof of the net to seal victory.

Grimsby refused to give in and came close to scoring a consolation effort, but Grace Holmes pulled off a great save to deny the visitors.
