Keighley 12 Hull Ionians 7 - Following the previous week's nail-biting last minute victory at Old Brods it was hoped that the Keighley side would treat their large following to calmer and less stressful match.
The first 20 minutes of this encounter with a rejuvenated Hull certainly saw some of the best open flowing rugby by the Keighley 15 all season. Both Forwards and backs linked well and dominated long periods of the game.
The constant pressure eventually brought a try from a superb solo run through the entire visitor pack by centre Thoy to touch down near the post. Geraghty converted with ease.
Keighley continued to camp in the Hull 22 but a rare excursion into the Keighley half and a well planned move gave the speedy visiting winger oceans of space to run in a converted try.
The Crusaders' response was immediate, from a penalty the home side decided against the kick to goal and took the line in the corner. A well rehearsed drive from the line out brought a try for Tate in the corner.
With the conversion going wide the five-point lead did not reflect the dominance of the home side and only some fine defensive work from the Hull side held the score till half time.
The second half produced plenty of chances for both sides but no points as Hull adapted their game well to stop the home side's driving play.
As Keighley tired Hull could have 'nicked it' as they threw the ball around looking for any opening they could, but Keighley's resolve held firm.
The final whistle came as a relief to the Keighley team and with Middlesbrough coming to Utley on Sunday a win will clinch the championship trophy for Keighley.
