Officials at a Yeadon church are inviting former parishioners to attend its final service after 111 years.
Last year it was announced that the church was to close under a reorganisation by Bradford Diocese, and that it would become the home of the New Life Community Church, which was formerly based at Greenacre Hall, New Road Side, Rawdon. Now St Andrew's is to hold its last Anglican mass, which will celebrate more than a century of worship at the church itself.
And congregations past and present are being invited to come along to the celebration at 2.30pm on Sunday, February 5.
A church spokeswoman said: "It will be a service celebrating the Christian life and witness at the church spanning a period of over 100 years, and a chance for people to give thanks for the part the church has played in their lives and the life of the local community.
"Anyone who wishes to come is invited to the service, and it is hoped that many people who have worshipped at St Andrew's over the years, or for whom the church has special significance in their lives, will attend."
She said: "We hope that people who had a connection with the church in the past will come to the service. People for whom the church has had some significance in their lives, if they have worshipped there in the past, or maybe married or had children baptised there.
"We would like to see all those who feel the church has played a significant role in their lives."
She said invitations had been issued by word or mouth, but now they wanted to get the message to anyone who does not already know about the final service.
She said: "People we are still in touch with those who know about it, but obviously there might be people who have moved away from Yeadon but who would like to come along."
She added: "It will be a celebration looking back at things that have happened in the church, at how the church has served the community in that part of Yeadon, and how people have worshipped there over the years.
