An environmental organisation is offering free advice to electronics companies ahead of new legislation regarding the disposal electrical waste.
Envirowise are offering the advice in light of the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment directive which comes into force later this year.
The directive will now place the onus on the producers of IT, telecoms and consumer equipment to take full responsibility for the collection and treatment of products at their "end of life" to reduce the amount of electrical waste going into landfill.
To help businesses prepare, Envirowise is encouraging companies to sign up to its free and confidential designtrack service.
The service focuses on giving on site guidance on cleaner design, how to update products and processes and how to comply with the new legislation
Elin Crebbin, above, of the organisation, said: "The directive poses a real challenge to producers an effective implementation requires significant planning and preparation.
"Businesses need to start changing processes now if they are to meet the requirements of the new legislation."
Envirowise, is a government organisation set up to give advice to businesses on environmental matters.
