A slippy road which has become an accident blackspot after six accidents happened there in less than a week is to be resurfaced.

And motorists have been warned to watch their speed before the work is carried out.

Skid tests were carried out at Parkside, on the corner of Otley Road, Eldwick, after six accidents in two days.

Police closed the road and Bradford Council workmen hosed it down with high powered jets following fears the surface had contributed to several accidents in recent months.

The authority's highways department also put up signs indicating motorists should travel at no more than 20mph.

A council spokesman said the test results showed a section of the bend in the road needed re-texturing to make it less slippy.

"We are meeting on site on Tuesday with a firm that specialises in this work. There is now a 20 mile per hour speed limit on the road and we advise motorists not to exceed it," he said.

But accidents were still happening. As reported in the Telegraph & Argus yesterday a motorist was taken to hospital after her Ford Ka flipped over at the point where Park Road and Parkside merged.

The driver was not badly hurt in the accident which happened at about 7.30pm on Thursday.

But Parkside resident Linda Baranian said the accident had made her blood run cold with fear. Mrs Baranian's has been demanding action from Bradford Council ever since a car ended up on the roof of her garage after losing control on the road.

The Nissan Micra crashed through a fence before plummeting onto the garage roof last November. Mrs Baranian said: "I daren't go into that part of the garden. If my little one had been playing out she could have got it in the neck."

Mrs Baranian said the resurfacing was one step towards a safer road, but she said other precautions also needed to be put in place.

Mrs Baranian said she had contacted the Council and Shipley MP Phil Davies about the road and the numerous accidents.

"Something has to be done about it," she said.
