IT'S double trouble for one Barnoldswick mum whenever she goes shopping.

That's because Tracey Raynor has to take one-year-old twins Caitlin and Adam along for the ride - and the town's Co-op store refused to provide her with a two-seater trolley.

Mrs Raynor, of Gisburn Road, said she had been asking the store to make a trolley available for the past nine months, but her efforts had been in vain.

She said: "It's made shopping really hard. You can just about manage it by putting one twin in the seat and one in a carrier in the trolley, but it's far from ideal and it means you can't buy as much.

"It's not as though it's just me that needs one either - I've seen plenty of other women pushing double prams around in the town and I know of a least one couple with triplets.

"They seemed to think it would be some sort of security problem as it would get stolen or vandalised, but why can't they just use the ones that need a £1 deposit to release them?"

Mrs Raynor added: "The general manager of the store has been very helpful, but nobody else seemed to want to know - I've left messages around five or six times but no-one rang me back.

"It's as though we just don't matter. They built this store for the convenience of the people in Barlick, but it's not very convenient for me. I might just have to do my shopping over in Colne in future."

This week the Co-Op said it was sorry no two-seater trolleys had been made available and pledged to have one in place by the end of next week.

A spokeswoman for the group said: "We would like to apologise to the customer for the delay in supplying a trolley with twin baby seats to the Barnoldswick Co-op and for the inconvenience this has caused. This was due to an oversight at regional level due to a staff member leaving and should not have occurred.

"A specialist trolley has now been ordered and in the meantime we are loaning a trolley from a neighbouring store which should be in Barnoldswick by the end of next week."
