Long Lee Under-11s A played their first game of the new year at home to Sandy Lane and secured a 3-1 victory. In the first half Long Lee were in the opposition half almost all the time, and got a deserved breakthrough when Ellis Atha latched onto a good cross from Daniel Driver to volley home. An own goal gave Long Lee a 2-0 half time lead, but they were unlucky not to have more, as they hit the crossbar once and both posts in the first half. In the second half Sandy Lane came out determined to try and get back into the game, but the Long Lee defence held firm before Mark Wood scored from the edge of the area to make the score 3-0. However, Sandy Lane did get one back in the last few minutes. Liam Baker was man of the match award for Long Lee.
Long Lee Vipers Under-9s returned to action after the Christmas break with a difficult trip
to Horsforth. The first half saw the Vipers score both goals of the game through Joe Cutler and Aaron Davis, with both David Spence and Lewis
Robinson also going close. Horsforth pressed second half but were unable to get past the defensive duo of Ben Sutcliffe and Benedict North or the impressive Charlie Shimmin in goal.
Oakworth Hornets Under-9s started very well against joint top of the table Wilsden and soon were ahead through a Nicholas Sharples goal. Playing some great football they couldn't extend their lead, finding the Wilsden goalie in top form. Wilsden managed to equalise in the last minute of the first half. Playing up hill in the second half Oaks defended superbly with great performances from Daniel Roche, Tommy Hutchinson and Oli Huck. Having weathered the pressure Oaks then looked the more likely to grab the winner but again missed their chances and were made to pay when Wilsden broke away and scored with 30 seconds remaining. Despite the result this does not detract from a great team performance.
Oakworth Wasps Under-9s enjoyed a good first half against Wilsden and Jake Smith opened the scoring following a great pass from Declan Maclaren. However, they could not increase the lead despite the pressure. Wilsden pressed Oaks back in the second half without creating many chances thanks to great tackling from Lauren Adams, Bradley Scrutton and Sol Wright. When it looked like they would hold on for the win Wilsden equalised with a fine shot.
A devastating first half attacking performance saw Oakworth Under-10 Hornets sweep near rivals Eldwick away and maintain their position at the top of the table. Jack Cryer, Oliver Arthurs (2) and Aaron Dickson all found the net as they passed the ball round with speed and accuracy. Although they added only one further goal in the second half, Arthurs completing his hat-trick, they continued to dominate possession. Eldwick scored a consolation near the end but went down 5-1.
Another terrific performance by the Oakworth Under-10 Wasps saw them beat Eldwick 6-0 and continue their fine unbeaten run. George Ingham fired a first half hat-trick, and Casey Dowthwaite also found the net as Oaks went in 4-0 up at the break. Further second half goals from Joshua Kiteley, following a super move, and Zack Storr gave the boys an emphatic win. This was a terrific team performance and all the boys deserve credit.
Silsden Under-14s A took part in a thrilling 'Steven Greenwood Cup' game against Bankfoot Villa and raced into a 3-1 lead thanks to a Sam Wood hat-trick but then lost their way allowing Bankfoot back into the game and were 4-3 down at half time. Led by man of the match John Golson, who scored the equaliser, they fought back and Golson added a second to win the match 5-4. Other good performances came from Tom Lohan, Robert De Belder, Luke Newton, Ross Suri and keeper Richard Quigley who made a match-winning save close to the end.
Silsden Under-11s continued their climb up the Craven, Aire and Wharfe league with a 10-1 win over Burley Trojans. Silsden's midfield of Tom McCann, Chris Rudden and Oliver Stephenson created many chances for the Silsden strikers and went into half time five goals up in the second half. Silsden took the game from Burley with five more goals but Burley never gave up and pulled one goal back. Scorers were: Josh McNulty (5), Ben Geary (2), Conagh Darwin (2), and Tom McCann.
Silsden Under 10s A gained three points after defeating a resilient Burley side 3-0 int heir first game of 2006. Both teams played good football and cancelled each other out in a goalless first half. Josh Metcalfe scored the opening goal in the second half after some good build up play from David Hunt and Danny King. The goal settled the team and Silsden played some great attacking football which resulted in two further goals from Hunt, who was denied a hat trick by the post. Ryan Narey, Jack Roberts and Josh Brown all had good games in defence and David Hunt was man of the match.
Silsden Under-10s B held on to their place at the top of the Green League after defeating a resilient Burley side 3-0. Silsden went ahead in the first minute with a goal from Mathew Keighley. Silsden kept on the pressure but could not add to the opening goal in the first half. In the second half goals from Lawrence Wildman and Cameron Latter made the game safe. Silsden Under-7s made a good start and took an early lead with a neat finish by Ellis Hudson and should have been more but some good saves from the Burley keeper. The opposition levelled things up but was short lived as an excellent left foot shot by Tommy Snowden restored the home side's advantage. A quick fire double by the opposition put them in front early in the second half, this wasn't the best showing by Silsden this season and only some excellent defending from man of the match Alex Briggs kept the game close, and a last minute own goal salvaged a 3-3 draw.
