Halifax Cup: Keighley Town 22 Ovenden A 26 - Town booked their place in the semi-final of the Halifax Cup with a thrilling extra-time winner that left rivals Oveden speechless.
They now face a tough test against Elland as they bid to move a stage further than last year, and make it to the final of the competition. In 2005 they reached two cup semi-finals could not make that extra step. Now they believe that with luck on their side this could be their year.
Lady Luck was certainly giving her support to the Town last weekend, but after weeks when things have seem to be going against them, they were happy to take advantage.
The confident Town side took a 14-0 lead, but saw Ovenden force their way back to make it 14-6 at half time. After the re-start Town edged ahead again and were 20-6 ahead before the visitors began to pile back into the game.
By full time they had drawn level with the score 20-20.
There had been a three-quarters of an hour delay after an Ovenden player broke his leg and an ambulance had to be called.
As they game went into extra time in the gathering gloom Ovenden looked to have sneaked a victory taking a 22-20 lead, but with time running out - and in almost total darkness - Town came up with the goods.
A good old fashion up-and-under was hoisted and Paul Bradley took the ball. He passed to Jimmy Shaw who flipped the ball on to Daz McNulty who touched down under the posts
The touchdown was the second of McNulty's tries with other touchdowns coming from Chris Clough and Jason Barnes who also kicked five goals.
They now hope to tranfer their cup form into league points.
Keighley Albion 26
Albion pulled off a superb victory over last over last season's champions - and current league leaders - Drighlington, with a stunning performance.
After a tough opening period with both teams testing each other Albion hooker Richard Blackburn forced his way over from close range. Albion had been camped in Drighlington's 25 for long periods before Blackburn wriggled over the line.
With time running out in the first half Alan Mugg burst onto an excellent pass from scrum half Jon Gwilliam to give Albion a 10-0 lead at the break.
In the second half Drighlington were determined not to let their impressive record slip and came out all guns blazing. Just over 10 minutes into the half McIntyre crashed over from close range. The conversion put them within four points of Albion, but the Keighley side was determined not the let their advantage slip.
Dooling burst away on a elusive run to the line, scoring under the posts and making life easy for Muff who added the goal. Centre James Bardget followed up with a try after 73 minutes with Muff again adding the conversion to put Albion 22-6 ahead.
By now the Albion were totally in command and just be3fore the final whistle Steve Smith outpaced the covering defence after collecting a ball on his own 10 metre line and running the length of the field.
Forwards Smith, Mount, Bellmay and Dooling were again outstanding with Muff and Gwilliam dictating proceedings in open play. Centre Colin Pickles also put in his best performance for weeks.
A lot of credit for the victory must also go to coaches Keith Dixon and Kelk.
Tomorrow (Saturday) sees Albion's toughest test to date when they entertain Yorkshire Cup runners-up Queensbury who have had Cougar players Karl smith and Stuart Calvert in their ranks.
Moldgreen 30
Silsden Park Rangers 4
Silsden Park Rangers travelled to Moldgreen on Saturday searching for their fourth win in a row.
With only a point separating the two sides in the league a closer score line might have been expected and on a heavy pitch the early exchanges indicated two evenly balanced sides, both in ability and size.
Silsden were finding it tough to gain yards in the boggy conditions especially against a well-drilled Moldgreen defence. The home side was very effective in slowing the play the ball down preventing rangers from getting into their rhythm.
The Cobbydale side were getting frustrated and errors started to creep into their game. The home side capitalised on a couple of dropped balls near Silsden's line, scoring two converted tries.
Moldgreen also burst the line from a scrum to score a great try from deep in their own half.
The whistle blew for half time leaving Silsden chasing the game at 18-4 with only two Andy Bowness goals to show for their efforts.
They threw everything at their opponents early in the second half, but the home side scrambled well and stopped Silsden short time and time again. Although Silsden controlled the second half they lacked the spark needed to break down the home defence.
As the clock was running down with Silsden chasing the game Moldgreen scored two late tries pushing their total up to 30 points. The game was won and lost in the first half and Rangers were left counting the cost of their early errors.
Tomorrow (Saturday) Silsden travel to Liversedge.
