CHRIS YOUNG swept to victory in the national inter-area cyclo-cross championships - winning the veterans race.
Young led the Yorkshire vets team to victory with Dave Stevens in third place and Mick Rowson in seventh as the team finished ahead of the East and West Midlands.
Three Peaks record holder Rob Jebb, who now lives in Cumbria, took the individual title and led the North West team to their third title in four years, backing the Wheelbase RT team-mates Lewis Craven, Stuart Reid and Jon McEvoy.
Yorkshire failed to get a full team to finish with Mark Thwaites, a silver medalist in the national Under-23 Champions, retired feeling dizzy with two laps to go. If he had finished in the top 14 Yorkshire would have take the Bronze medal, but a searching to rediscover the county's enthusiasm for the sport they have won 12 times since helping to re-introduce the national team championships in the 1980's.
