Marine 2 Guiseley 0
IT was a disastrous day for Guiseley when they visited Merseyside on Saturday and suffered yet another injury blow in the depths of time added on.
The victim this time was stand-in skipper David Henry who had taken over the armband from knee injury victim Jez Illingworth.
With Andy Lee also out for a number of weeks, Keiron O'Brien out with a back injury and young striker Danny Forrest succumbing yet again to his knee injury this was a blow manager Neil Parsley could have done without.
On the eve of the game centre-back Lee Connor transferred to table topping North Ferriby so Parsley added Reserve team players Adam Gilroy and Ashley Jefferies to Tom Marsden and Matt Larkins who had already made their debuts.
In the first-half Guiseley were slightly the better team but there were not many goal scoring chances for either side.
Guiseley 'keeper Matt Taylor made a good double save early on to prevent Marine from going ahead while for Guiseley Dave Henry had two good shots from outside the box, one just going over the bar and the other being tipped over by the 'keeper.
The second-half started with Guiseley well in the game but a controversial refereeing decision in the 51st minute changed the game.
With centre-back Sam Denton lying on the ground in the penalty area with a head injury the referee allowed play to continue and Marine's Byrne scored from ten yards. The guiseley players protested and Matt Taylor was booked.
This goal brought Marine more into the game and on 58 minutes striker Young beat two men to net with a low drive from just outside the box.
Guiseley came back into the game again but never really looked like scoring.
The game ended disastrously for Guiseley with Henry being stretchered off in time added on.
Guiseley: Taylor; Hay, Ellis, Denton, Ball (Gilroy); Henry (Jefferies), Grayston, Smithard, Stuart; Cooke, Marsden (Larkins).
