A West Yorkshire estate agency has agreed to abide by the terms of consumer protection legislation after a number of complaints were received about the company.

Jump Group Ltd has given undertakings to the Office of Fair Trading that it will comply with the provisions of the Estate Agents Act and other consumer protection legislation.

The company gave interim undertakings to the OFT in September 2004 that it would comply with various specified provisions of the Estate Agents Act after the OFT received a number of complaints about the company. However, the company went into administration in 2005 while still in consultation with the OFT about the form of the final undertakings to be given.

Jason Butler, the Managing Director of Jump Group Ltd, formed a new company, Jazbut PLC, which continued to trade as Jump.

The OFT was advised that it was Mr Butler's intention that Jazbut PLC should provide the OFT with identical undertakings to those being sought from his former company, Jump Group Ltd.

Jazbut PLC trading as Jump has undertaken to the OFT that it will not commit breaches of the Estate Agents Act.

Philip Collins, OFT Chairman, said: "The Estate Agents Act applies to anyone who is engaged in estate agency work. The OFT will take whatever action is required to ensure that consumers who are buying and selling homes are afforded the protections that the law provides."
