hundreds of police officers joined with members of the public on Wednesday to line the streets of Bradford as they paid their final respects to PC Sharon Beshenivsky.

Family, friends, politicians and representatives of every police force in the country attended the funeral, which took place at Bradford Cathedral.

The cortege started in Morley Street, where PC Beshenivsky was gunned down while investigating a robbery at a travel agents on November 18.

Outside the cathedral, up to 200 of the Keighley police officer's colleagues formed a guard of honour. Inside, around 400 officers attended.

Paying tribute to his fallen colleague, West Yorkshire Chief Constable Colin Cramphorn said: "Today is not about understanding how and why Sharon was taken from us -- that will happen in the weeks and months to come.

"Today is our opportunity to show our respect and affection for Sharon.

"Sharon will live on in all of us as we, in our turn, seek to make a difference. Bradford is a better place thanks to the efforts of Police Constable 6410 Sharon Beshenivsky."

Staff from Parkside School, Cullingworth, where PC Beshenivsky's son, Sam, 12, is a pupil, were present, along with 30 of his fellow students.

Head teacher Dr Tony Rickwood was accompanied by head of year Sharon Jackson and Sam's form tutor Hayley Poole.

At St George's Hall a big screen relayed television pictures to a large crowd -- many of them police colleagues.

PC Beshenivsky lived with her husband, Paul, and two of their children, Paul, seven, and Lydia, four, and her two stepchildren, Emma, 13, and ten-year-old Joshua, at Back Shaw Lane, Hainworth.

Two men, Yusuf Jama, 19, and Muzzaker Imtiaz Shah, 24, have been charged with her murder and remanded in custody.

A third suspect, Mustaf Jama, 25, is still sought by police. Rewards totalling £90,000 are now being offered for information leading to his arrest and conviction.

Inquest opened

An inquest has been opened into the death of murdered Keighley police officer Sharon Beshenivsky.

Bradford Coroner Roger Whittaker adjourned last Friday's short hearing pending the conclusion of criminal proceedings and offered his "heartfelt" sympathy to PC Beshenivsky's family.

He added: "The public outpouring of grief and concern for PC Sharon Beshenivsky and her family has been an indication, not just to them but to her colleagues and their families as well, of our concern for all those who sadly -- but of necessity -- place themselves in danger for our protection."

The Bradford hearing was told that a post-mortem examination conducted by Home Office pathologist Professor Christopher Milroy had given the cause of death as a gunshot wound to the chest.

Two arrested in Midlands

Two men were arrested yesterday in connection with the murder of Keighley PC Sharon Beshenivsky -- just a day after she was laid to rest in Bradford.

The men were arrested in Birmingham on suspicion of firearms offences, after a joint operation between West Yorkshire and West Midlands police forces.

Chief to run for memorial fund

A former divisional commander of Keighley is among a group of police officers training for a 20-mile race to raise money for the family of PC Sharon Beshenivsky.

Chief Supt Mark Whyman, now the Wakefield District Commander, has signed up for the race along with a number of police officers from the Wakefield district.

The race takes place on March 19, in Hull.

Chief Supt Whyman said: "I said that I would join in and it seemed fitting because this has affected everyone in the force.

"Sharon was only doing her job when this happened and we all feel a sense of loss. She will be missed by many."

He added: "We hope that many of our colleagues will donate generously. The aim is to raise as much as we can for the memorial fund."
