A mother is at the end of her tether after suffering four sleepless nights caused by roadworks outside her home.
Teresa Keach, of Dockfield Road, Shipley, was kept awake for four nights running after contractors for Yorkshire Water began works.
Mrs Keach said she was constantly woken by a noise which sounded "like thunder", caused by cars driving over the three huge iron grates the contractors have put in the road over the holes they have created.
And Mrs Keach said workers had been drilling and carrying out work at all hours, making her and her family's life unbearable.
Her anger has earned her an official apology from Yorkshire Water officials, who say that the road works were essential.
"I just cannot believe that they think they can treat people like this," she said.
"I rang up to complain that the noise cars were making by driving over them was terrible and they promised to send somebody out to remove it.
"But it was four days before any of them were removed and one of them is still here.
"I appreciate that they need to carry out roadworks from time to time and we would have tolerated it during the day, but this is ridiculous.
"I had workman outside my window making a racket really early in the morning. We should not have to put up with this."
Mrs Keach, who lives with her husband and 19-year-old son, said it was not the first time that roadworks by Yorkshire Water had impacted on her life.
"They were here before Christmas and it was the same story with them making a load of noise at all hours," she said.
"They really should just carry out the work at a reasonable hour."
A spokesman for Yorkshire Water said: "We have been working in Dockfield Road to lay a new water main to make sure that we provide water of the highest quality.
"This work can take a number of days and excavations are necessary to allow us to carry out this work. While this work was ongoing we needed to use the metal plates to
comply with highways regulations.
"We appreciate that they can cause some noise and worked as quickly as possible to keep this to a minimum.
"The plates have now been removed and we apologise for any inconvenience while this vital repair work was carried out."
