A young couple whose baby was born in the car park of a library came up with a fitting name.

Clare Oxley and her partner Gavin have decided to name the child Paige.

Miss Oxley, 24, who has two other children, was on her way to the Bradford Royal Infirmary with her mother Heather when the baby made an earlier-than-expected appearance.

Clare, who was travelling with her mother Heather, 45, had to pull over at Eccleshill Library to allow the baby to be born.

Miss Oxley, of Foston Lane, Fagley, Bradford, said her contractions had been irregular, switching from six minutes apart to ten since labour pains began on Saturday morning.

Miss Oxley said: "My partner Gavin rang my mum to take me to hospital and he was going to get our other children and meet us there.

"But we only made it as far as Eccleshill Library.

"Luckily the Paramedic made it just in time and was able to deliver my baby."

Baby Paige was delivered on the back seat of the Skoda Felicia weight 6lbs, 6oz.

Both mother and baby were taken to the BRI where they were given a clean bill of health.

The couple chose the name Paige because they felt it would provide a reminder of the fact that she was born at the library.

The next day her partner Gavin Clayton was on his way to collect a friend from Cleckheaton in the Felicia when he was involved in a car crash. Thankfully, Mr Clayton, 25, was not seriously hurt but he did suffer whiplash injuries.

Miss Oxley said the two incidents had made her think twice about the saying that events tend to happen in threes.

Paige has a sister, Chelsea, six, and a brother, Lewis, four.
