Children in Keighley are being encouraged to 'Be Active' at the West Yorkshire Sports Hall Athletics trials in Bradford next month.
On February 5 at the Richard Dunn Sports Centre in Odsal, an open and selection meeting will take place giving youngsters between 11 and 15 the chance to take part in track and field athletics at a warm and safe location.
Bingley Harriers are organising the selection meeting, which could lead to some children being selected for the West Yorkshire under 13 and under 15s teams for the Yorkshire regional finals on March 5 in Halifax.
The West Yorkshire Sports Hall Athletics Association and the Bradford 'Be Active' campaign are hoping to encourage schools to help unearth the new Kelly Holmes in our area, whilst encouraging youngsters into the sport.
All of West Yorkshire's four teams took part at the UK finals in April 2005 and the hope is to try and continue this success and have stronger teams for the 2006 finals.
No previous athletics experience is needed to take part in the day itself.
All applications are welcome and you don't have to go with your school.
Registration starts at 1pm and the entry fee is £3.
You must be aged 11 on the day of trials and under 15 as at August 31, 2005.
For an entry form and more information ring Christina Oates on 01274 416286 or go to www.bingleyharriers.org.uk.
