Ilkley Karate Club's annual presentation at the Ilkley Lawn Tennis Club saw a total of 75 awards, over £900 worth, presented to students young and old who had done well over the year.

It had been one of the best years to date results wise for the club. Out of a total of nine competitions entered (regional, national, open and international tournaments) the students took part in over the year they managed to come away with 29 first place trophies, 33 second place trophies and 38 third place trophies.

Tashina Earle (12) was the top trophy winner as she managed to win 13 trophies from just nine tournaments. Tashina also added the World Traditional Karate title in Italy just to put the icing on the cake.

In the club gradings Emily Kerr (9) together with adults Tracey Burrass and Claire Harris managed to skip grades with near perfect marks, this was under the watchful eye of Sensei Stan Knighton 8th Dan.

New black belts in 2005 included Tashina Earle, Ken Corless, Andrew Johnston, Tyrone Abraham, Calum Kerr and Chris Harris while Simon Holden passed the senior rank of 2nd dan.

The Ilkley club runs a league for its students, so the more they put in, the more rewards they receive. Points are awarded to students for lessons, gradings and competitions. This was the brainchild of the 5th degree instructor Mark Outterside back in 1991 that has now been adopted by several other Instructors in the UK.
